Height: 162cm
Weight: 50kg
Years in the industry: 1 competing, before that 4 years of weight training.
Were you involved in any sports prior to getting into the gym?
Before training in the gym I danced, I was in a dance troupe for 3 years, competing in multiple shows all over Australia, and traveled with the troupe to the US to dance in the Disneyland parade in Anaheim, and attend various workshops at leading dance companies in LA, and New York.
Who or what inspired you to get into weight training?
I reduced my dance load once I got into my later years of college as I wanted to focus on my education a little more, but still wanted to remain active. My father had been going to the gym my entire life and I had gone along with him as a child but never seriously, once I started lifting weights in my teen years I never looked back.
What inspired you to compete in your first show?
I moved to Sydney for three months for work experience in a market research firm and needed to find a gym for myself whilst I was there. I begun training at locally run MMA based gym close to where i was staying, and this is where my serious training really took off, my trainer said I have a suitable physique and should consider competing, once I came back to Canberra I had others mentioning that i should look into competing as well. So I did my research, chose the ANB Asia Pacific International due to the opportunities that were on offer, and started working towards it.
How many days a week do you training leading into a show, can you provide an example training split?
I train 5-6 days a week depending on my schedule and needs. I enjoy early morning sessions to get my mind and body started for the day. I usually incorporate LISS cardio as competition time draws near, as my main love is in the weights area. I aim to train each body part 1-2 times per week and really just do what I feel like and what I feel needs the work.
I am a big advocate of training the way that you enjoy, and for me that is heavy weights and mixed exercise reps and sets. I truly believe you get the best results when you do what you want to do, and most important listen to your body.
What sort of diet do you follow leading into a show and how many meals per day?
As with my training schedule, I eat the food that I enjoy to eat and that my body needs, as this is how I get the best results. Leading to a show I typically eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, but this is purely due to personal preference. I make sure I get a protein source in each meal, and eat foods that are likely to keep me fuller for longer. I love getting creative and make sure I mix up my sources to ensure I’m getting adequate variety. My go to meals are a huge bowl of chicken pesto salad, and oats.
Future goals in the fitness industry?
The health and fitness industry is one that I believe is growing at an incredibly fast rate, and its one that I am excited to be a part of. Public health marketing is where I would love to see my career headed. In terms of my personal goals, constant improvement is something I strive for. So, my future goals are really to improve, grow, and through that see what opportunities this allows me! I feel as though I have world at my fingertips, and am incredibly excited to see where my passion for fitness could take me.
